Community Involvement

Giving back to the local community has always been a large part of our company’s culture whether it be through volunteering time and talent or through financial support of charitable organizations. To RSV, being involved is much more than writing a check. It is being actively engaged and working hand-in-hand with members of numerous local organizations that is of greatest importance to RSV. A few examples include:

Another part of being involved in the local community is through sharing expertise with local business and civic organizations. The following is a list of local organizations for which RSV employees have donated their time in various capacities:

Innovative Services NW is a nonprofit organization that values, assists and supports children, adults and families in the local community who have disabilities or other disadvantages. It does this through offering a continuum of services including therapy and childcare for children; employment training and job support for teens and adults; and intervention, education and support for families.

Ron Frederiksen and his wife Terry Murphy, spent five years on Innovative Services’ capital campaign committee in order to raise the funds needed for its new building. As a volunteer fundraiser, Ron raised a $1 million gift from a private donation and RSV sponsored Innovative Services’ annual Caring Hearts fundraiser for five consecutive years.

In addition, Ron and Terry received the prestigious Chairman of the Board Award in 2006. Because Innovative Services’ mission is so critical and its programs help children in the community in such a profound way, RSV has remained a strong supporter over many years.

YWCA of Clark County link to external website

YWCA Clark County's mission is to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. YWCA Clark County serves more than 10,000 people each year who are victims of domestic violence, homelessness, sexual assault, child abuse and neglect, and oppression, as well as youth in foster care and incarcerated women. Its programs provide the tools and support to build self-esteem, foster positive life choices, and change lives.

In the early 80s, Terry Murphy helped design the interior of YWCA’s building, which just so happens to be the building that RSV is currently operating from. In the early 90s the YWCA hired RSV to remodel and convert a church into the YWCA corporate office. For seven years, Terry was the co-chair of the YWCA annual auction and in 2008 was selected for the Women of Achievement award. RSV continues to actively support the YWCA.

CDM Services helps people help themselves to remain independent at home with dignity and choice. CDM was founded in 1978, as a nonprofit organization, on the belief that everyone young and old or somewhere in between needs a little help sometimes.

Ron was introduced to CDM through his relationships at Innovative Services NW. Because CDM shared a similar and comparable mission to Share, Ron was immediately drawn to the organization. In 2001, CDM was leasing space and was looking for a new location. Very similar to Share, RSV worked on a pro bono basis to help CDM find a new location. RSV helped CDM find a more appropriate leased location for the next five years, and then helped it figure out how to own a permanent location for the future.

Pearson Air Museum link to external website

Pearson Air Museum sits adjacent to the historic Pearson Air Field, the oldest operating airfield in the United States. The museum serves to educate the public about aviation along with the history of the Pearson Airfield and the adjoining Fort Vancouver National Historic Site.

At the age of nine, Ron Frederiksen started spending time at the Pearson Air Field marveling at the planes with dreams of one day becoming a pilot. As the years passed, Ron enlisted in the Air Force and became a pilot. After serving his term, Ron came home to Vancouver and in the late 90s joined the board of the Pearson Air Museum in order to help create an environment where youth, who are interested in flying, can have their dreams fostered. RSV continues its involvement with the Pearson Air Museum along with the Historic Reserve Trust through volunteerism, fundraising and board membership. Ron served for nine years on the City of Vancouver’s Aviation Advisory Committee and was the chair of the committee for three of those years.

"I have been able to see firsthand the time and expertise Ron commits to his work and I have also seen the mutually respectful and beneficial relationships he builds with his clients and his subcontractors. In addition, Ron has donated a great deal of time, not only to Innovative Services NW, but to other nonprofit organizations in our community, offering his expertise and time by serving on campaign committees and providing free consultation and advice. He is an amazing and respected businessman."
